From songs featuring former Shady acts like Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater, and Ca$his to classics starring heavyweights like 50 Cent, G-Unit, and, of course, Eminem, Shady was built, in part, on the strength of their collaborations. There have been quite a few of them that have been recorded, too. Collaborative efforts have played a big part in the success of the label over the years. He's also looking for rappers who can jump on Shady collaborations as needed and hold their own with other artists in the Shady stable. But really, can you blame him for being so fussy? When he signs artists, he's not just looking for someone who can sell a lot of records for him. Since launching his label back in 1999, he has signed less than a dozen acts to it. So, what does all this mean? It means I hope my favorite artists of the moment don’t get shelved. I highly doubt that would happen due to how much noise these guys are making on the internets but it will always be a possibility in the back of my head. Well, there’s Slaughterhouse (signed in 2011) comprised of Royce da 5’9”, Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden and Crooked I. They’ve released one album in 2012 and a mixtape on 2014. Then … crickets. Em also joined forces with his once friend-then enemy-then friend again, Royce da 5’9”, to release an EP in 2011. Then … crickets. That same year he signed Alabama’s Yelawolf. Yelawolf had some steam behind him for a while and did some decent numbers. After two full length releases his fans were awaiting his third album but then he had a melt-down on stage last year and … crickets. Dre. Em’s first signees were his own group, D12, which did great numbers and gained some pop success. After the deaths of two members, Proof and Bugz, and a lengthy hiatus the group is pretty much in limbo. They are about as raw as they come in today’s tight-jeaned hip hop world. They are reminiscent of Ghostface Killah and Raekwon with a new school twist but much, much more violent. I was amazed that they were even on Em’s (Eminem) radar.
